TONY LAW - Gilded Balloon Nightclub (Fri 4th August)
An obscure comedy hour awaits you with the surreal Canuck in his new show "Dog Of Time".
It's not going to be humour for everyone. Some will laugh away and find themselves laughing at things that shouldn't be funny but Law's honed delivery style raises mirth out of them, whilst others will find Law's act just plain unfunny. Comedy is a strange beast and so is Tony Law's world.
It's certainly a loose show and some of the gags and routines just don't work but the randomness moves on apace and the ones that do work, really do, as the audience is treated to an insight into what it's like to love and lose your time travelling canine companion Cartridge Davison (Law's burger loving sausage dog) and we relive their adventures with the Vikings, Romans and Egyptians, along with getting an insight into the other world that Tony Law inhabits - a world where Dali would be deemed to be a bit too boring and normal.
What does his South African sponsor think? What messages would you leave those in the future? How can you not love and miss the little dog in the big picture beside him?
If you liked the randomness of Law in "The Dinks" a few years back and the ramblings of say Vic and Bob and Harry Hill, then, like us, you'll at have a smile on your face from start to finish, sometimes out of bemusement. The show does struggle to get out of third gear at times and never reaches epic laugh a minute proportions, but that's not Tony Law's style of comedy, which will mean some will not take the trip inside Law's head or want to get off half way through.
It's a mixed bag, but one worth taking the plunge to rummage through.
